I'm a college student on a budget, so I don't have much of an interest in expensive makeup. This blog is mostly about inexpensive, good finds, like the cosmetics that compare to the expensive stuff. Products with the greatest value (except cheap and generic perfumes; I don't do knock-offs). Feel free to submit your makeup pictures or reviews!
P.S. I can't follow you because this is a secondary blog :/ So if I do, it's from my default blog: http://sullenwoman.tumblr.com.
Hi I desperately need some great recommendations! ok so I have very oily skin and I only like to wear powder because I hate the feeling of foundation and I really just need a light to medium coverage because I'm happy with my skin. Do you know any really great powders for oil control? I wear a primer and concealer underneath. Also I'm having trouble deciding between a loose or pressed powder. Please help!
I think essence all about matte is great for oil control, but it is more for setting concealer or foundation or blush. I don’t know how it would be alone. The powder is white, but it comes out translucent on your skin. Also there’s a lot of praise towards rimmel’s stay matte pressed powder. I liked it and thought it provided decent coverage but I prefer Essence’s all about matte powder for oil. I am currently in love with physicians formula mineral wear talc free pressed powder. I wear it over concealer, the same way you do (so much more practical than applying foundation) and I love the coverage…but it is like medium to full coverage depending how much you build it up. I think it does a decent job at keeping my skin more matte. Don’t know if you already know this, but drinking a lot of water helps keep skin less oily and moisturizing it with a light moisturizer for sensitive skin, that way the skin doesn’t over produce oil to come date for the lack of hydration. Oh, I hear maybelline’s dream matte powder is good but I haven’t tried it.
Do you know of any good mascara that looks natural? I have blonde eyelashes and I use brown mascara, so my eyelashes match my hair color. The ones I have just make my eye lashes look clumpy and fake. any advice?
Have you tried Maybelline’s full and soft?
can you please help me!! i need to know which powder foundations from the drug store are yellow toned! bc ive tried a bunch and they are either too dark and make the redness/pink on my face look worse or the powder is a little pink itself :/ im pretty pale im in loreal true match in w2 (and that alone doesnt cover redness so which concealer would you reccomend for that? thanks a bunch!!!
Not sure if this is yellow toned, but Hard Candy’s concealer glamoglauge heavy duty concealer is pretty great. I think it’s more on the warm side. Do you have a beauty blender sponge? It’s pretty awesome for setting concealer; you just blot the concealer and you’ve got sufficient coverage. There’s a cheaper one that is pretty similar to the beauty blender from London Soho called the beauty sponge, and it’s around 8 dollars at Walgreens. I think that when applying concealer with your fingers or a concealer brush it is easy to rub the concealer off.
I stopped being a lipgloss girl long ago. I am a lipstick junkie, and lately have been trying to find the perfect red. I bought Jordana lipstick in the shade “radiant red.” Why do Jordana lipsticks smell so damn good? Anyway, new favorite. They are very pigmented and last quite long. The lasting quality is up there with wet n wild’s megalast lipstick, though these are creamier and a tiny bit shinier, while wet n wild’s are more matte. It has a really rich and creamy texture (just like the product claims). Everything the product claims to be is actually true. I love it and the red was similar to the shade I was looking for, like a blood red.
As I was doing the swatch, the lipstick broke at the very bottom :( But at least it still works well.
Poor picture quality makes this a poor representation of the hue though. It looks more on the pink side in the picture, but it is more red in reality.
I always hear girls saying that they don’t have the courage to wear red lipstick, or even bold colors. Don’t be shy about it! I personally think that there are red shades that suit every skin tone! You just have to find the shade that is right for you. Trial and error. It helps to determine your skin tone to give you an idea what hues look good on you.
If the red lipstick is too rich, like this Jordana one is, blot with a tissue or use your clean finger tip to tone it down. I use my finger tip as if I am applying lipstick with it. It helps soften it.
If you have never worn red lipstick and want some tips on how to go about wearing it, here is an awesome article to help get you started.
I am barely trying these. I have been seeing them around for the past few years, and I finally gave in. Damn you, Miley Cyrus! They are really affordable, but I am quite stingy with money :P
Apparently these lip balms are harder to get outside of the U.S., like Australia. Some popular websites sell fake EOS lip balms. I was surprised because they are so easy to obtain here — you can find them at your local walmart for less than 3 bucks. I figured I might as well take advantage of their easy availability. I got the strawberry sorbet one. So far I have only been wearing it for about 30 minutes so we’ll see how it is after a few days. I have chronic chapped lips. I think I might start addictively buying them just like I do with lipsticks (I am such a lipstick junkie).
I think the packaging is so cute though!
I think that the actual product is adorable. It’s a nice change applying it from a round balm rather than the typical stick balms. So it’s an interesting change.
